Limelight Networks to Deploy Avici Systems Routers for Advanced New Content Delivery Network
Limelight Selects Avici Core Routers to deliver high-bandwidth content for its media and entertainment customers
Chicago, June 7, 2005 —
Avici Systems (NASDAQ: AVCI) and Limelight Networks today announced that Limelight has chosen Avici Systems SSR™ and TSR® core routers for deployment in its leading content delivery network for Internet distribution of video, music, games and downloads. Limelight selected Avici routers to upgrade its current Internet backbone for their ability to reliably support real-time high-bandwidth media and entertainment delivery to large audiences via the Internet, and cost-effectively scale in-service to accommodate a growing customer base.
Limelight's unique multi-core routing delivery architecture is a generation ahead of other content delivery networks, with complimentary routing deployments to separately handle backbone traffic and edge delivery. Limelight's alliance with Avici gives the service provider industry-leading performance over its "WAN-core" - the fiber-based carrier network infrastructure between its media distribution centers.
"The Avici WAN-core solution delivers a compelling new model that provides Limelight with a key competitive advantage by bringing together the perfect mix of high performance, reliability and scale to our customers at unprecedented price points," said Nathan Raciborski, Chief Network Architect of Limelight Networks. "We believe this represents a turning point in the industry, and we are pleased to be partnering with Avici to provide technology leadership with key advantages we can pass on to our customers. We selected Avici on the merits of the equipment, technology and support - and we are very pleased to be working with them on the buildout of our new content delivery network."
"Avici's vision is to make IP networks simple by removing complexity from as many places as possible. We believe carriers are demanding simpler scalability, reliability and security solutions from their IP suppliers and we are uniquely positioned to deliver on these capabilities," said William Leighton, CEO of Avici Systems. "Limelight is using its network infrastructure with the right combination of technology at the core and at the aggregation/edge to establish itself as a leading provider to enterprises around the world. We are very pleased to be working with Limelight Networks, who also share our view of how IP networks should be built."
Limelight is taking advantage of key Avici technologies including Avici's Composite Links™ and aggregate links which can dynamically aggregate up to 64 physical links into a single logical link, supporting a 10:1 speed differential Limelight can seamlessly expand link capacity to accommodate high-bandwidth applications and improve network utilization without service disruption or costly provisioning. This combined with Avici's NSR® Non-stop routing for 99.999% availability and Avici's fast convergence solution, RAPID™, provide powerful tools for simplifying the network.
