Avici Systems Demonstrates Carrier-Class High Reliability Routing At SUPERCOMM
NSR® Technology Delivers 99.999% Availability in a Single Router Guaranteed
ATLANTA, June 4, 2002 -- Avici Systems, Inc., (Nasdaq: AVCI) the specialist in high reliability routing solutions for the Internet, announced today it is demonstrating its breakthrough NSR® non-stop routing technology for achieving 99.999% availability in a single router at the SUPERCOMM 2002 trade show from June 4-6.
Avici's SSR™ and TSR™ carrier-class routers are designed to dramatically simplify and reduce the cost structure of service providers' networks. Unlike traditional router offerings, Avici TSR and SSR enable carriers to intelligently build IP networks that are as reliable as ATM and TDM networks. This reliability breakthrough allows carriers to deliver more cost effective IP services as quickly as possible, increasing their bottom line and eliminating the need to purchase redundant routers they do not need. Avici is also taking the unique step of backing its NSR® Technology with a Service Level Agreement (SLA) guaranteeing 99.999% availability in a single router. This SLA demonstrates Avici's confidence in the reliability of its routers and a willingness to partner with carriers to deliver the industry's most reliable IP services.
Avici is also participating in the world's largest MPLS interoperability event to date. Sponsored by the MPLS Forum, Avici is bringing its advanced routing and MPLS capabilities to the event, working with 20 other leading equipment vendors to demonstrate MPLS interoperability. See this demonstration at the MPLS Forum booth 11559, Hall C2.
Avici's demonstrations, which highlight the advanced features of the SSR and the TSR, the world's first family of carrier class routers, are taking place at the Avici booth, #11341, Hall C, and will include:
Avici's NSR®, Non-Stop Routing Technology
Avici is demonstrating how carriers can achieve 99.999% availability
in a single router, eliminating the current practice of cloning routers
at every point of presence to protect against router failures. Avici's
NSR® non-stop routing technology enables carriers to increase IP services
profitability by reducing capital and operational expenditures.
"Simplified PoP" for Cost Savings
Due to scale and reliability limitations of legacy routers, carriers
today are forced to implement complex, costly, multi-tiered PoP architectures.
This results in operational complexity and increased capital costs.
Avici will show how its advanced IPriori(TM) software enables carriers
to consolidate costly network layers into a single platform to reduce
the complexity and cost of the PoP.
BTexact Carrier Requirements of Core IP Routers 2002 Study
Avici is highlighting the results of its participation in BT Technologies'
BTexact Carrier Requirements of Core IP Routers Benchmark Study. Avici
is the first vendor to have successfully completed BTexact's rigorous
benchmark for carrier-class core routers. The BTexact team evaluated
Avici's products against requirements in seven categories including
reliability, scalability, performance, feature support, management,
interoperability and security.
"All of our SUPERCOMM demonstrations underscore our commitment to partnering with our customers to offer them the most reliable and scalable IP network possible," said Steve Kaufman, Avici's president and chief executive officer. "Service providers want to improve the profitability of their IP networks by offering VPN, VoIP, video and managed services to their customers, but they need to deliver the same reliability found in ATM and TD M networks. Avici's NSR® technology enables them to achieve carrier-class reliability."
Avici's family of carrier-class routers enables service providers to grow from five Gbps to over five Tbps of capacity as their demand increases. Avici's unique distributed Velociti(TM) architecture, robust IPriori software, and NSR® non-stop routing technology deliver the highest levels of network reliability while lowering the cost of building and operating IP networks.
