This procedure describes the replacement of a fabric filler module for the Quarter-rack Scalable Router (QSR).
Before beginning this procedure, carefully inspect the package to ensure no damage occurred during shipping or delivery. If you suspect any possible damage to a field replacement unit, contact Customer Service immediately.

Installing Fabric Filler Modules
Fabric filler modules ship separately from the QSR and are installed on either side of a bank of router modules to ensure multiple active links. See the Quarter-rack Scalable Install Guide for details about population rules and where to install fabric filler modules.
To avoid damage to the backplane, perform a detailed inspection of the fabric filler module VDHM connector each time you insert or remove a module.
PROCEDURE: Use the following steps to install fabric filler modules:
Step 1 Verify that the wrist strap you are wearing is properly grounded or that other antistatic measures are in place.
Step 2 Remove the fabric filler module from its packaging and static protection bag and gently place it on a flat surface.

Step 3 Remove the VHDM protective cap from the end of the module so that you can inspect the connector.
- Put the protective cap in a safe place. See Figure 2.
- You must perform a detailed inspection of the VHDM connector before installing the module.

Step 4 Carefully inspect the VHDM connector for damage such as deformed sockets, holes between socket columns, or distorted guide fins on the top and bottom of the socket columns.

CAUTION (2) If the VHDM connector shows any signs of damage, DO NOT insert it into a bay. Mark the module as damaged and call TSR-BY-AVICI to request an RMA.
Step 5 Look into fabric filler slot to ensure that it is free of obstruction, such as packing materials.
Step 6 Verify that the ejector latches on the module are locked into the closed position.
Step 7 Gently slide the module into the slot until the ejector latch tab hits the outer lip of the shelf. See Figure 4.

Step 8 Simultaneously do the following to unlock both ejector latches (see Figure 5:
- Press release levers in the directions indicated by the arrows on the latch.
- Rotate the ejector latches away from the module faceplate.
- With the latches unlocked, slide the module into the slot until the tabs sit in the grooves on the other side of the lip (see Figure 5).

Removing the Fabric Filler Modules
If you need to remove an installed fabric filler module, use the following procedure.
To avoid damage to the backplane, perform a detailed inspection of the fabric filler module VDHM connector each time you remove or insert a module.
PROCEDURE: Use the following procedure to remove a fabric filler module:
Step 1 Verify that the wrist strap you are wearing is properly grounded or that other antistatic measures are in place.
Step 2 To unlock the ejector latches on the module, simultaneously do the following to both latches (see Figure 7):
- Press release levers in the direction indicated by the arrows on the latch.
- Rotate the ejector latches away from the module faceplate.
