Installing Bay Controller Modules
Follow the instructions in this procedure to install and remove QSR bay controller modules.
To avoid damage to the backplane, perform a detailed inspection of the bay controller module VDHM connector each time you insert or remove a module.
PROCEDURE: Use the following steps to install the bay controller modules:
Step 1 Verify that the wrist strap you are wearing is properly grounded or that other antistatic measures are in place.
Step 2 Remove the bay controller module from its packaging and static protection bag and gently place it on a flat surface.

Step 3 Remove the VHDM protective cap from the end of the module so that you can inspect the connector. See Figure 2.
- Put the protective cap in a safe place.
- You must perform a detailed inspection of the VHDM connector on the back of the bay controller module before installing the module.

Step 4 Carefully inspect the VHDM connector for damage such as deformed sockets, holes between socket columns, or distorted guide fins on the top and bottom of the socket columns.

CAUTION (2) If the VHDM connector shows any signs of damage, DO NOT insert it into a bay. Mark the module as damaged and call TSR-BY-AVICI to request an RMA.
Step 5 Look into bay controller slot to ensure that it is free of obstruction, such as packing materials.
Step 6 Open the release latches on the bay controller module.
- The open latches should be at a 90-degree angle from the module faceplate. If you do not open the latches to a 90-degree angle, you cannot insert the module completely into the slot.
Step 7 Slide the bay controller module all the way into the left or right card guides (see Figure 4).

Step 8 Close the latches to seat the connector at the rear of the module firmly into the controller backplane.
Removing Bay Controller Modules
This section describes how to remove an installed bay controller module.
To avoid damage to the backplane, perform a detailed inspection of the bay controller module VDHM connector each time you remove or insert a module.
NOTE Removing and reinserting the bay controller module causes the module to power off, power on, and rerun the boot process. The boot process includes running the module POST. See the Quarter-rack Scalable Router Install Guide for details about the bay module POST.
PROCEDURE: Use the following procedure to remove a bay controller module:
Step 1 Verify that the wrist strap you are wearing is properly grounded or that other antistatic measures are in place.
Step 2 Disconnect any cables connected to the module faceplate.
Step 3 Open the bay controller module latches to a 90-degree angle with the faceplate.
Step 4 Pull the module out of the bay to unseat the backplane connectors. Refer to Figure 5.
