Step 4 Tighten the screws to secure both handles to the QSR.
Step 5 Using the mounting handles, lift the QSR out of the crate and onto the floor in front of the rack.
Step 6 Continue to the next section, "Rack Mounting the QSR."
Rack Mounting the QSR
Decide on the position in the rack where you plan to install the QSR. If installing the QSR in an empty rack, always install the first chassis in the bottom of the rack. QSR supports installation for front, rear, or mid-mounting.
Lifting the chassis from the pallet requires two people. When installing the chassis in a rack, a third person to help guide and secure the chassis during mounting can prove helpful.
![]()
WARNING (W:2-2) Use safe lifting procedures when lifting and moving the unit to avoid personal injury.
NOTE The QSR must be mounted in a standard, zone 4 compliant, 19-inch or 23-inch rack, capable of holding at least 1000 lb. Follow the manufacturer's recommendations to set up the rack prior to mounting the QSR.
You can rack mount the QSR from the front or rear. If the rack is a 19" rack, the QSR can be mounted from the rear only. Before rear mounting, remove the mounting ears located in the middle of the chassis and move them to the required position.
Leave a clearance of 1.575 mm (.062 in.) between the top of the QSR and equipment being installed above the QSR. To rack mount a QSR
- In the bottom of a rack, follow the instructions in "Mounting the QSR in the Bottom of a Rack".
- Above another chassis, follow the instructions in "Mounting the QSR above Another Chassis".
Figure 2-13 shows two rack-mounted QSRs.
Figure 2-13. Mounting QSRs in the Rack
![]()
For instructions on connecting two or more QSRs, refer to the Field Replacement Procedure (FRP), "Connecting Multiple Chassis."
![]()
WARNING (W:2-3) This procedure requires two people to lift the QSR from the shipping crate. A third person to guide the QSR into the rack and tighten the screws to secure the chassis may prove helpful.
Mounting the QSR in the Bottom of a Rack
Determine if you are front, mid, or rear mounting the QSR. If you are front mounting the QSR, remove the second set of mounting ears. If the rack is a 19" rack, the QSR can be mounted from the rear only. If you are rear mounting the QSR, remove the mounting ears from the front and middle of the chassis to the required position.
PROCEDURE: Use the following procedure to mount the QSR in a secured rack:
Step 1 Using the mounting handles, slide the QSR through the front of the rack, to the required position.
Step 2 Align the holes in the mounting ears with the holes in the rack. If you are middle or rear mounting, align the respective holes.
Step 3 Beginning at the bottom of the mounting ears and alternating from side to side, secure eight #10 panhead (panel mount) screws (four per side) through the mounting ears to the rack.
Step 4 Loosen the three screws from each mounting handle and remove the handles from the QSR. Store the handles in a safe place for future use.
Step 5 Replace the QSR faceplate as described in "Replacing the Faceplate".
Mounting the QSR above Another Chassis
If you rack mount the QSR above another chassis, follow the space requirements for the chassis over which the QSR will be installed. For example, if mounting the QSR above another QSR, leave 1.575 mm (.062 in.) between them.
Determine if you are front, mid, or rear mounting the QSR. If you are front mounting the QSR, remove the second set of mounting ears. If you are rear mounting the QSR, move the mounting ears from the middle of the chassis to the rear.
PROCEDURE: Use the following steps to mount the QSR above another chassis.
Step 1 Locate the four mounting braces that ship with the chassis.
Step 2 Determine how much space to leave between the QSR and the chassis below it.
Step 3 Align a brace with the holes on the rack mounting ears leaving the required space and secure the brace to the rack.
Step 4 Align each of the other braces with the first brace and the holes on the rack, and secure the braces to the rack (see Figure 2-14).
Figure 2-14. Attaching the Braces
![]()
Step 5 Once the four braces are attached to the rack, visually check that the braces align properly to form a level, even plane on which to rest the QSR.
- While you secure the QSR in the rack, the braces hold the chassis to allow you to maneuver.
![]()
CAUTION (C:2-2) If the braces do not align properly, the QSR could tip or become unstable during installation.
Step 6 Using the mounting handles, lift and slide the QSR into the rack just above the braces.
Step 7 Rest the QSR on the braces.
Step 8 Align the holes in the QSR mounting ears with the holes in the rack.
Step 9 Beginning at the bottom of the mounting ears and alternating from side to side, secure eight #10 panhead (panel mount) screws (four per side) through the mounting ears to the rack.
- After securing the chassis to the rack, you may leave the braces attached to the rack or remove them. They are no longer required.
Step 10 Loosen the three screws from each mounting handle and remove the handles from the QSR. Store the handles in a safe place for future use.
Step 11 Replace the QSR faceplate as described in "Replacing the Faceplate.
Replacing the Faceplate
PROCEDURE: Use the following steps to replace the QSR faceplate:
Step 1 Align the QSR faceplate with the front of the chassis and press it until the ball studs engage and it snaps into place (see Figure 2-15).
