ospf-events Messages

This chapter describes messages generated by the ospf-events subsystem.

Critical

Message: Checksum failed in a LSA (ospf) with fields <area> <LSA type> <LSA id> <LSA checksum> <calculated checksum>

Meaning: An OSPF LSA failed an internal validity test. The packet was corrupted.

Action: Save your system log to a file and contact Avici customer support.

Message: Checksum failed in a self originated LSA (ospf) with fields <area> <LSA type> <LSA id> <LSA checksum> <calculated checksum>

Meaning: An OSPF LSA failed an internal validity test. The LSA packet was corrupted.

Action: Save your system log to a file and contact Avici customer support.

Major

Message: Failed to replicate Nbr <neighbor address> in intf <interface address> (<interface name>) because of error:<failure reason>

Meaning: Backup router does not have this neighbor information as contained by the primary router

Action: Failover would have a OSPF flap for this neighbor

Message: Failed to replicate add intf <interface address> (<interface name>) because of error:<failure reason>

Meaning: Backup router does not have this interface information as contained by the primary router

Action: Failover might have a OSPF flap on this interface

Message: Failed to replicate del Nbr <neighbor address> in intf <interface address> (<interface name>) because of error:<failure reason>

Meaning: Backup router does not have the neighbor deleted information as contained by the primary router

Action: Failover would have a OSPF flap for this neighbor

Message: Failed to replicate del intf <interface address> (<interface name>) because of error:<failure reason>

Meaning: Backup router does not have the interface deleted information as contained by the primary router

Action: Failover might have a OSPF flap on this interface

Message: Recd repo ack for <nbr state> nbr <nbr address>

Meaning: acknowledgement received from backup server for a neighbor upation from the primary router

Action: None

Message: calling DR/BDR election during recreation for intf <interface address> (<interface name>) DR <DR value before election> BDR <BDR value before election>

Meaning: A DR/BDR election has been invoked during recreation because DR/BDR values are not present in the specified interface. The adjacency will flap as a result of the DR/BDR election.

Action: No action required.

Minor

Message: <> nbr <> in state <> of intf <> (<>) from (<>)

Meaning:

Action:

Message: OSPF (RtrId <router>) nbr <neighbor> (RtrId <address>) state change from <oldState> to <newState>

Meaning: Log message for the NbrStateChange Trap indicating a neighbor state change. The new neighbor state is as per the ospfNbrState object from the OSPF-Mib.

Action: No action required.

Message: Rcvd Hello PktLen <> in HA Transition state in intf <> (<>) from nbr <>

Meaning:

Action:

Warning

Message: Cannot configure host-summary to BACKBONE area

Meaning: Backbone area cannot be configured with host-summary hence the attempt to configure host-summary has been ignored.

Action: No action required.

Message: Cannot configure virtual link with <area> area as transit since it is already target for host-summary filter

Meaning: An attempt to configure a virtual link, with the specified area as transit, has been rejected, becasue an area configured with host-summary cannot be a transit area for virtual link.

Action: Either select a different area as VL transit or unconfigure host-summary for the selected area.

Message: Failed to set multicast intf - address: <address>, pkt type:<packet type>

Meaning: The specified OSPF packet type has not been transmitted to the multicast address for this interface.

Action: Check the state of the interface.

Message: Hello Processing - Dead Neighbor Event from Module (Neighbor <neighbor router> with address <neighbor address>)

Meaning: The Dead Neighbor Timer has expired in the module for the specified adjacency.

Action: The Peer has not sent 4 OSPF HELLOS because the interface is down or for some other reason. Check the state of the peer.

Message: Invalid process data at host-summary filter handler aborting host-summary command request processing

Meaning: Due to internal error changes to host-summary configuration have been ignored

Action: Re-issue CLI command to reflect changes to host-summary configuration.

Message: Lost Neighbor <neighbor router> with address <neighbor address> due to HELLO received without my ID

Meaning: When the specified Neighbor is in FULL state, The My router-id is not listed in the received HELLO. The adjacency state will drop to One-way.

Action: Check the connection with the peer.

Message: Lost Neighbor <neighbor router> with address <neighbor address> due to bad LS Request (<link state> <advertised router> <LSA type>)

Meaning: A Bad link-state processing occurred, because a request received from the specified neighbor was not found in the database.

Action: No action required.

Message: OSPF RECV Area <address> <nn.nnn.nnn.nnn> -> <address>: IP: bad destination

Meaning: This interface received a multicast packet, such as OSPF, but wasn't configured for it.

Action: No action required.

Message: OSPF RECV Area <address> <nn.nnn.nnn.nnn> -> <address>: LS ACK: duplicate ack

Meaning: This OSPF interface received a duplicate acknowledgement (ACK). This can happen during topology changes, and other significant OSPF events.

Action: No action required.

Message: OSPF RECV Area <address> <nn.nnn.nnn.nnn> -> <address>: LS UPD: neighor state low

Meaning: A temporary situation has occurred, in which the TSR has determined that this neighbor is in a certain state, but the neighbor was still in a potentially higher state, and had sent out a packet before the two routers had determined the proper state for the adjacency.

Action: No action required.

Message: OSPF RECV Area <address> <nn.nnn.nnn.nnn> -> <address>: LS UPD: received less recent LSA

Meaning: IPriori received an old LSA on this OSPF interface. This can happen during topology changes, and other significant OSPF events.

Action: No action required.

Message: OSPF RECV Area <source address> -> <address>: <reason>

Meaning: An OSPF packet has been received due to the reason outlined in the Reason arguement.

Action: Save your system log to a file and contact Avici Customer Support.

Message: OSPF range rejected for BACKBONE attached area <area> has host-summary configured

Meaning: An OSPF range has been rejected for the specified area, because OSPF range cannot be configured if any attached area has host-summary configuration.

Action: No action required.

Message: host-summary command rejected since BACKBONE configured with OSPF range

Meaning: The host-summary command was rejected, because host-summary cannot be configured to an area if OSPF backbone has OSPF range configured.

Action: No action required.

Information

Message: Summary Net <net> mask <mask> purged from Area <area> due to host summary filter

Meaning: The OSPF summary LSA is filtered because of the host-summary filter configuration.

Action: No action required.

Message: host-summary-only changed status:<configuration change status> for area_id:<area>

Meaning: The host-summary configuration has been modified by the user.

Action: No action required.
