Positioning Multi-Bay Configurations

Preparing to Anchor Bays

Positioning procedures for the Series II bays are outlined in this chapter. When installing Series II bays in either 2 or 4-bay Configurations, refer to the "Terabit Switch Router Series II Install Guide" for specific instructions on anchoring procedures.

Due to its weight when fully loaded, the TSR Series II systems require sufficient anchoring to maintain fault tolerance through earthquakes and to ensure against tipping.

For more information on dimensions, weights, and floor loading refer to the "Terabit Switch Router Series II Install Guide."

TSR II 2-Bay and 4-Bay Configurations

In TSR II multi-bay configurations, there is no distinction between the bay types. Figure 2-1 shows a 2-bay buildout (front bays) of TSR II bays and a 4-bay buildout (front and rear bays) of four TSR II bays.

In TSR II 2-bay configurations, the design of the TSR II allows side-by-side installation without side panel removal.

Determining Space Requirements - TSR II Bays

In planning for installation, ensure that sufficient space is allowed both for moving and positioning the bays as well as for installation. For 2-bay installations, the bays are positioned side-by-side (refer to Figure 2-2).

NOTE When planning for multibay installations, allow sufficient access space between back-to-back rows. This means always including the measurements of the rear EMI covers as well as the bay in determining floor space planning.

In 4-bay configurations, the front and rear side-by-side bays are positioned in back-to-back rows (refer to Figure 2-3). A minimum of 24"to a maximum of 48" is allowed between the back-to-back rows in a 4-bay configuration.

Refer to Table 2-2 "TSR II 4-Bay Configuration Measurements." Remember to adjust the space requirements if the space between the back-to-back rows varies for your installation area.

Positioning TSR II 2-Bay Configurations

Position the TSR II bays using the custom dolly following all safety precautions outlined in the "Terabit Switch Router Series II Install Guide." Select the appropriate procedure for the type of floor in your installation area. Ensure that leveling requirements have been met in accordance with instructions outlined in the "Site Preparation Guide Series II."

In the 2-bay configuration, bays are numbered 1 and 3 (refer to Figure 2-4).

Use the following procedure to position and align Bay 3 next to Bay 1:

Step 1 Position the insulator pad on the floor surface aligning the anchor hole cutouts in the insulating pad with the anchor holes in the floors (refer to Figure 2-5).

Step 2 Using the custom dolly, position the frame of Bay 3 next to Bay 1, ensuring that the anchor holes align over the respective anchor holes in the insulating pad.

Step 3 Lower the custom dolly adjusters to the (approximate) final bay height. Check that the cabinet is vertically aligned, side-to-side and front -to-rear within .25 cm (0.1 in.) of the bay height.

Step 4 Loosely install the four anchor bolts appropriate for the type of floor installation in your area.

Step 5 Proceed to "Connecting TSR II Bays" to connect Bays 1 and 3.

Positioning 4-Bay Configurations

Position the TSR II bays using the custom dolly following all safety precautions outlined in the "Terabit Switch Router Series II Install Guide." Ensure that leveling requirements have been met in accordance with instructions outlined in the Site Preparation Guide. Select the appropriate procedure for the type of floor in your installation area.

In a 4-bay configuration, TSR II Bays 2 and 4 are positioned directly behind TSR II Bays 1 and 3, with a minimum of 24" between the rows to a maximum of 48" between the rows (refer to Figure 2-6).

NOTE When determining space requirements for multi-bay configurations, measurements shown in Figure 2-32 are from bay frame to bay frame, not from front to rear templates. If floor templates are used to determine space requirements, a minimum of 152.4 mm] (6 inches) must be added to the template measurements between front and rear bays to allow sufficient space between front and rear rows.

PROCEDURE: Use the following procedure to position and align Bays 3, 2, and 4:

Step 1 Position the insulator pad on the floor surface aligning the anchor hole cutouts in the insulating pad with the anchor holes in the floors (refer to Figure 2-7).

Step 2 Using the custom dolly, position the frame of Bay 3 next to Bay 1, ensuring that the anchor holes align over the respective anchor holes in the insulating pad.

Step 3 Lower the custom dolly adjusters to the (approximate) final bay height. Check that the cabinet is vertically aligned, side-to-side and front -to-rear within .25 cm (0.1 in.) of the bay height.

Step 4 Loosely install the four anchor bolts appropriate for the type of floor installation in your area.

Step 5 Proceed to "Connecting TSR II Bays" to connect Bays 1 and 3 together.

Step 6 Position the insulator pad on the floor surface location behind Bay 1, aligning the anchor hole cutouts in the insulating pad with the anchor holes in the floors. The distance will vary according to the distance between the back-to-back rows. Figure 2-8 shows 3 bays in position.

Step 7 Lower the custom dolly adjusters to the (approximate) final bay height. Check that the cabinet is vertically aligned, side-to-side and front -to-rear within .25 cm (0.1 in.) of the bay height.

Step 8 Install and secure the four anchor bolts appropriate for the type of floor installation in your area.

Step 9 Using the custom dolly, position the frame of Bay 4 next to Bay 2, ensuring that the anchor holes align over the respective anchor holes in the insulating pad (refer to Figure 2-9).

Step 10 Lower the custom dolly adjusters to the (approximate) final bay height. Check that the cabinet is vertically aligned, side-to-side and front -to-rear within .25 cm (0.1 in.) of the bay height.

Step 11 Loosely install the four anchor bolts appropriate for the type of floor installation in your area.

Step 12 Proceed to "Connecting TSR II Bays" to connect Bays 2 and 4 together.

Connecting TSR II Bays

In TSR II 2-bay and 4-bay configurations, TSR II bay frames connect via bolts in the bottom of bay frames and connector plates on the tops of the bays.

Connecting Bays - TSR II 2-Bay Configuration

With Bay 3 leveled and anchor bolts loosely installed, the bays are ready to be connected to their adjacent bays. Connection bolts slide in through holes in Bay 3 and Bay into Bay 1. Connector plates are then installed at the top of the bays. After the bolts have been engaged in the bolt holes, the bays are aligned. Refer to the "Terabit Switch Router Series II Install Guide" for completing the anchoring procedure. After completing anchoring, connection bolts in bay frames and in connector brackets are fully tightened to secure the TSR II bay frames together. Refer to "Adjusting the Alignment of TSR II Bays" for instructions on aligning bays. Refer to Figure 2-10 for the locations of the bay-to-bay connection holes.

PROCEDURE: Beginning at the bottom rear connection bolt hole in Bay 3, use the following procedure to insert the connection bolts:

Step 1 Place the lock washer and flat washer on a M12x60 connection bolt and slide the bolt through the bottom rear connection through hole in Bay 3 and begin to engage the bolt in the threaded hole of Bay 1 (refer to Figure 2-11).

Step 2 Place the lock washer and flat washer on the M12x60 connection bolt and slide the bolt through the bottom front through hole in Bay 3 and begin to engage the bolt in the threaded hole of Bay 1 (refer to Figure 2-12).

Step 3 Position the connector plate between Bays 1 and 3 in the top front of the bays. Place the split lock washer on the four M12x20 connection bolts and slide the bolts through the connector plate into the bays. Do not fully tighten the four bolts (refer to Figure 2-13).

Step 4 Position the connector plate between Bays 1 and 3 in the top rear of the bays. Place the split lock washer on the four M12x20 connection bolt and slide the bolts through the connector plate into the bays. Do not fully tighten the four bolts (refer to Figure 2-14).

Adjusting the Alignment of TSR II Bays

With all of the connection bolts now engaged and connector plates installed, recheck that the cabinet is vertically aligned, side-to-side and front-to-rear within 0.25 cm (0.1 in.) of Bay 1.

Concrete and Pedestal Installations

PROCEDURE: Use the following procedure to level and complete the anchoring of the additional bay to the floor or pedestal:

Step 1 To set the height and alignment of the bay, select and insert the final shims by:

Raised Floor Installation without Pedestals

PROCEDURE: Use the following procedure to level and complete the anchoring of the additional bay to the floor:

Step 1 Check that the bay is virtually aligned, side-to-side, and front-to-rear within 0.25 cm (0.01 in.) of the bay height, using a spirit level or a plumb tool at the top of the frame. If the bay is not aligned insert shims as follows:

Tightening the Connection Bolts

With the Bay 3 now anchored and level in position, use the following procedure to complete tightening the connection bolts connecting the TSR bays:

Step 1 Use the 19 mm socket and torque wrench with extension to torque the bottom rear connection bolt to 60 ft lb + 2.

Step 2 Use the 19 mm socket and torque wrench with extension to torque the bottom front connection bolt to 60 ft lb + 2.

Step 3 Use the 19mm socket and torque wrench to torque the front and rear top connection plate bolts to 60 ft lb + 2.

Connecting Bays - TSR II 4-Bay Configuration

The 4-bay configuration extends the 2-bay configuration by adding 2 bays behind the existing 2 bays in a back-to-back row. The rear bay frames connect bay with connection bolts and connector plates. Connection bolts slide through the connection holes in Bay 2 into threaded holes in Bay 4 only on the bottom of the TSR II bays. After anchoring bay 2, and engaging the connection bolts through the bottom bolt holes in Bay 4, the bays are aligned. Refer to "Adjusting the Alignment of the Bays" for information on aligning the bays. The top of the bays are then connected with connection plates and secured with bolts. After aligning the bays, the anchor bolts. Refer to the "Terabit Switch Router Series II Install Guide" for completing the anchoring procedure. After completing anchoring, the connection bolts in bay frames and in connector brackets are fully tightened to secure the TSR II bay frames together.

PROCEDURE: Beginning at the bottom rear connection bolt hole in Bay 2, use the following procedure to insert the connection bolts:

Step 1 Place the lock washer and flat washer on a M12x60 connection bolt and slide the bolt through the bottom rear connection through hole in Bay 2 and begin to engage the bolt in the threaded hole of Bay 4 (refer to Figure 2-15).

Step 2 Place the lock washer and flat washer on the M12x60 connection bolt and slide the bolt through the bottom front through hole in Bay 2 and begin to engage the bolt in the threaded hole of Bay 4 (refer to Figure 2-16).

Step 3 Position the connector plate between TSR II bays 2 and 4 in the top front of the TSR II bays. Place the split lock washer on the four M12x20 connection bolts and slide the bolts through the connector plate. Do not fully tighten the bolts (refer to Figure 2-17).

Step 4 Position the connector plate between TSR II bays 2 and 4 on the top rear of the TSR II bays. Place the split lock washer on the four M12x20 connection bolts and slide the bolts through the connector plate. Do not fully tighten the bolts (refer to Figure 2-18).

Adjusting the Alignment of the Bays

With all of the connection bolts now engaged and the connector plates installed, recheck that the cabinets are vertically aligned, side-to-side and front-to-rear within 0.25 cm (0.1 in.) of each other.

Concrete and Pedestal Installations

PROCEDURE: Use the following procedure to level and complete the anchoring of Bay 4 to the floor or pedestal:

Tightening the Connection Bolts

Rotary and Toggle Switch Settings

The toggle and rotary switch settings on the TSR II bay backplanes identify the location of each bay in the lineup. The toggle switch identifies where (i.e., front or back row) and the rotary switch number identifies the bay's number within the front or back row (refer to Figure 2-19).

The toggle and rotary switches are located on the bay controller backplane of each TSR II bay. Refer to Figure 2-20. The toggle switch specifies whether this bay is in the front or back row (F or B). The rotary switch specifies the number of the bay within the front or rear row in a multiple bay lineup (refer to Figure 2-20).

NOTE In TSR II bays, front on the toggle switch is indicated by the numeral "0."

2-Bay Configuration

PROCEDURE: Use the following procedure to configure the toggle and rotary switches of Bay 3 in the 2-bay configuration:

Step 1 Set toggle switch to "0" for Bay 3, the bay in the second position in the front row.

Step 2 Set Bay Number SW1 rotary switch to "2" (refer Figure 2-20).

4-Bay Configuration

PROCEDURE: Use the following procedure to configure the toggle and rotary switches for the Bay 3 in the 4-bay configuration:

Step 1 Set toggle switch to "0" on Bay 3, the bay in the second position in the front row in the bay lineup.

Step 2 Set Bay Number SW1 rotary switch to "2" (refer to Figure 2-21).

Step 3 Set toggle switch to "1" on Bay 2, the bay in the first position in the back row in the 4-bay configuration. The numeral "1" indicates the back row.

Step 4 Set Bay Number SW1 rotary switch to "1" (refer to Figure 2-22).

Step 5 Set toggle switch to "1" on Bay 4, the bay in the second position in the back row in the 4-bay configuration. The numeral "1" indicates the back row.

Step 6 Set Bay Number SW1 rotary switch to "2" (refer to Figure 2-23).

TSR/TSR II 2-Bay and 4-Bay Configurations

In configurations including TSR and TSR II bays, there is no distinction between the bay types. Figure 2-24 shows a 4-bay configuration of TSR/TSR II bays and additionally shows bay numbering.

TSR bays ship with side panels installed. When connecting TSR and TSR II bays in a 2-bay configuration, the side panel on the side of the existing TSR bay providing the adjacency must be removed before joining the bays together. Side panels on TSR II bays allow bays to be joined side-by-side without side panel removal (refer to to Figure 2-24).

Removing Side Panels on TSR Bays - TSR/TSR II Bays

For TSR bays only, after floor preparation is complete and before positioning and anchoring, it is necessary to remove the set of side panels from the side of the TSR bay providing the adjacency. In a 2-bay configuration, the panels are removed from the side of Bay 1 (refer to Figure 2-27). In this particular configuration, because the TSR II does not require removal of side panels, reinstallation of the side panels is not required.

PROCEDURE: Use the following procedure to remove the side panels of the TSR bay (Bay 1) providing the adjacency:

Step 1 Use an 8 mm nut driver to loosen the two retaining fasteners (M5 keps nuts) located on the on the top mounting bracket (refer to Figure 2-27).

Step 2 Lift the top side panel up and off the mounting bracket pins on the mounting brackets (refer to Figure 2-27).

Step 3 Lift the bottom side panel up and off the mounting brackets pins on the mounting brackets (refer to Figure 2-28).

Step 4 Using the #3 Phillips screwdriver, remove the six mounting brackets from the side of the TSR bay (refer to Figure 2-29).

Step 5 Set the panel(s) and hardware aside for later reinstallation.

Positioning TSR/TSR II 2-Bay Configurations

When positioning bays and using the custom dolly, follow all safety precautions outlined in the "Terabit Switch Router Series II Install Guide." Ensure that leveling requirements have been met in accordance with instructions outlined in the Site Preparation Guide TSR Series II.

With the side panels removed and EMI gasket material installed on the TSR bay, the TSR II bay is ready to be positioned. Select the appropriate procedure for the type of floor in your installation area

In the 2-bay configuration, bays are numbered 1 and 3 (refer to Figure 2-30).

Step 5 Proceed to "Connecting TSR and TSR II Bays" to connect Bays 1 and 3.

Step 5 Proceed to "Connecting Bays - TSR/TSR II 2-Bay Configuration" to connect Bays 1 and 3 together.

Step 6 Position the insulator pad on the floor surface location behind Bay 1, aligning the anchor hole cutouts in the insulating pad with the anchor holes in the floors. The distance will vary according to the distance between the back-to-back rows. Refer to Figure 2-34.

Step 7 Lower the custom dolly adjusters to the (approximate) final bay height. Check that the cabinet is vertically aligned, side-to-side and front -to-rear within .25 cm (0.1 in.) of the bay height.

Step 8 Install and secure the four anchor bolts appropriate for the type of floor installation in your area.

Step 9 Using the custom dolly, position the frame of Bay 4 next to Bay 2, ensuring that the anchor holes align over the respective anchor holes in the insulating pad (refer to Figure 2-35).

Step 10 Lower the custom dolly adjusters to the (approximate) final bay height. Check that the cabinet is vertically aligned, side-to-side and front -to-rear within .25 cm (0.1 in.) of the bay height.

Step 11 Loosely install the four anchor bolts appropriate for the type of floor installation in your area.

Step 12 Proceed to "Connecting Bays - TSR/TSR II 4-Bay Configuration" to connect Bays 1 and 3 together.

Connecting TSR and TSR II Bays

With Bay 2 anchored and Bay 3 leveled with anchor bolts loosely installed, the bays are ready to be connected to their adjacent bays. To connect bay frames in a 4-bay configuration, connection bolts slide through the connection holes in Bay 2 into threaded holes in Bay 4 only on the bottom of the TSR II bays. After the bolts have been engaged in the bolt holes in Bay 4 and the connection plates joining the tops of the bays are installed, the bays are aligned. Refer to "Adjusting the Alignment of TSR Bays". When the bays are aligned, the anchor bolts in Bay 4 are fully tightened. Refer to the "Terabit Switch Router Series II Install Guide" for completing the anchoring procedure. After completing anchoring, the connection bolts in the bay frames and in the connector brackets are fully tightened to secure the TSR II bay frames together.

In TSR/TSR II 2-bay configurations, TSR bay frames are joined with connection bolts on the bottom of the bay frame and connector brackets on the top of the bays. Connection bolts slide in through holes in Bays 3 and 4 into threaded holes in Bays 1 and 2 on the bottom only. Refer to Figure 2-36 for the locations of the bay-to-bay connection holes.

Connecting Bays - TSR/TSR II 2-Bay Configuration

To connect TSR and TSR II bay frames, connection bolts slide through the connection holes in Bay 3 into threaded holes in Bay 1 only on the bottom of the TSR II bays only. Connector brackets are then installed. After the bolts have been engaged in the bolt holes in Bay 1, the bays are aligned. Next, the anchor bolts in Bay 3 are tightened. Refer to "Adjusting the Alignment of TSR Bays" to align the bays. Refer to the "Terabit Switch Router Series II Install Guide" for completing the anchoring procedure. After completing anchoring, the connection bolts in the bay frames and in the connector brackets are fully tightened to secure the TSR II bay frames together.

PROCEDURE: Beginning at the bottom rear connection bolt hole in Bay 3, use the following procedure to insert the connection bolts:

Step 1 Place the lock washer and flat washer on a M12x60 connection bolt and slide the bolt through the bottom rear connection through hole in Bay 3 and begin to engage the bolt in the threaded hole of Bay 1 (refer to Figure 2-37).

Step 2 Place the lock washer and flat washer on the M12x60 connection bolt and slide the bolt through the bottom front through hole in Bay 3 and begin to engage the bolt in the threaded hole of Bay 1 (refer to Figure 2-38).

Step 3 Position the connector bracket between Bays 1 and 3 in the top front of the bays. Place the split lock washer on the three M12x20 connection bolts and slide the bolts through the connector bracket and into the bay. Do not fully tighten the bolts (refer to Figure 2-39).

Step 4 Position the connector bracket between Bays 1 and 3 in the top rear of the bays. Place the split lock washer on the three M12x20 connection bolts and slide the bolts through the connector bracket and into the bay. Do not fully tighten the bolts (refer to Figure 2-39).

Adjusting the Alignment of TSR Bays

With all of the connection bolts now engaged, recheck that the cabinet is vertically aligned, side-to-side and front-to-rear within 0.25 cm (0.1 in.) of the Bay 1.

Concrete and Pedestal Installations

PROCEDURE: Use the following procedure to level and complete the anchoring of the additional bay to the floor or pedestal:

Step 1 To set the height and alignment of the bay, select and insert the final shims by:

Raised Floor Installation without Pedestals

PROCEDURE: Use the following procedure to level and complete the anchoring of the additional bay to the floor:

Step 1 Check that the bay is virtually aligned, side-to-side, and front-to-rear within 0.25 cm (0.01 in.) of the bay height, using a spirit level or a plumb tool at the top of the frame. If the bay is not aligned insert shims as follows:

Tightening the Connection Bolts

With the Bay 3 now anchored and level in position, use the following procedure to complete tightening the connection bolts connecting the TSR bays:

Step 1 Use the 19 mm socket and torque wrench with extension to torque the bottom rear connection bolt to 60 ft lb + 2.

Step 2 Use the 19 mm socket and torque wrench with extension to torque the bottom front connection bolt to 60 ft lb + 2.

Step 3 Use the 19mm socket and torque wrench to torque the front and rear top connection plate bolts to 60 ft lb + 2.

Connecting Bays - TSR/TSR II 4-Bay Configuration

The 4-bay configuration extends the 2-bay configuration by adding 2 bays behind the existing 2 bays in a back-to-back row. The rear bay frames connect bay with connection bolts and connector brackets. Connection bolts slide through the connection holes in Bay 2 into threaded holes in Bay 4 only on the bottom of the TSR II bays.

After anchoring bay 2, and engaging the connection bolts through the bottom bolt holes in Bay 4, connector brackets are installed and the bays are aligned. Refer to "Adjusting the Alignment of the Bays". After the bays are aligned, the anchor bolts are fully tightened. Refer to the "Terabit Switch Router Series II Install Guide" for completing the anchoring procedure. After completing anchoring, the connection bolts in the bay frames and in the connector brackets are fully tightened to secure the TSR II bay frames together.

PROCEDURE: Beginning at the bottom rear connection bolt hole in Bay 2, use the following procedure to insert the connection bolts:

Step 3 Position the connector plate between TSR II bays 2 and 4 in the top front of the TSR II bays. Place the split lock washer on the four M12x20 connection bolts and slide the bolts through the connector plate and into the bay. Do not fully tighten the bolts (refer to Figure 2-43).

Step 4 Position the connector bracket between TSR II bays 2 and 4 on the top rear of the TSR II bays. Place the split lock washer on the four M12x20 connection bolts and slide the bolts through the connector plate and into the bay. Do not fully tighten the bolts (refer to Figure 2-44).

Rotary and Toggle Switch Settings

The toggle and rotary switch settings on the TSR bay backplanes identify the location of each bay in the lineup. The toggle switch identifies where (i.e., front or back row) and the rotary switch number identifies the bay's number within the front or back row (refer to Figure 2-45).

The toggle and rotary switches are located on the bay controller backplane of each TSR and TSR II bay. Refer to Figure 2-46. The toggle switch specifies whether this bay is in the front or back row (F or B). The rotary switch specifies the number of the bay within the front or rear row in a multiple bay lineup (refer to Figure 2-46).

NOTE In TSR bays, front on the toggle switch indicates "front." In TSR II bays, front on the toggle switch is indicated by the numeral "0."

2-Bay Configuration

PROCEDURE: Use the following procedure to configure the toggle and rotary switches of Bay 3 in the 2-bay configuration:

Step 1 Set toggle switch to "0" for Bay 3, the bay in the second position in the front row.

Step 2 Set Bay Number SW1 rotary switch to "2." This indicates the second bay in the front row (refer to Figure 2-46).

4-Bay Configuration

PROCEDURE: Use the following procedure to configure the toggle and rotary switches for the Bay 3 in the 4-bay configuration:

Step 1 Set toggle switch to "0" on Bay 3, the bay in the second position in the front row in the bay lineup.

Step 2 Set Bay Number SW1 rotary switch to "2." This indicates the second bay in the front row (refer to Figure 2-47).

Step 3 Set toggle switch to "1" on Bay 2, the bay in the first position in the back row in the 4-bay configuration. The numeral "1" indicates the back row.

Step 4 Set Bay Number SW1 rotary switch to "1" (refer to Figure 2-48).

Step 5 Set toggle switch to "1" on Bay 4, the bay in the second position in the back row in the 4-bay configuration. The numeral "1" indicates the back row.
