Overview

The Terabit Switch Router Series II Install Guide for Multi-Bays assists users in installing Terabit Switch Router Series II (TSR II) Multi-Bay systems. To ensure a successful installation, make sure the site conforms to the requirements and specifications provided in the Terabit Switch Router Series II Site Preparation Guide.

NOTE In this manual, Terabit Switch Router is referred to as TSR and the Terabit Switch Router Series II is referred to as TSR II.

This chapter presents an overview of the multi-bay installation procedure and references equipment safety and electrical standards. This manual contains information related strictly to the multi-bay installation process.

Safety Information

To avoid personal injury and damage to equipment, be sure to adhere to all caution and warning statements for this product and any electrical and safety requirements specific to your site.

TSR II Multi-Bay Configuration

The architecture of the TSR II allows the expansion from a single bay to a 2-bay or 4-bay configuration. The 2-bay configuration consists of two bays positioned side-to-side. Installation of the second bay may be a cold installation or a live upgrade. The 4-bay configuration expands to four bays in two back-to-back rows and may be a cold installation or a live upgrade.

The 2-Bay Configuration

The variations of the 2-bay configuration may include two TSR II bays or a TSR coupled with TSR II (refer to Figure 1-1 and Figure 1-2). Both variations provide the same reliable and scalable network expansion, deliver greater port density, and reduce network costs. After the second bay is added to form a 2-bay configuration, bays are added in pairs

Switchable flex connectors provide connectivity between bays in all side-to-side configurations. Once installed, switchable flex connectors allow the future addition of router module pairs to existing live configurations without service interruption or additional hardware installation.

The 4-Bay Configuration

The 4-bay configuration expands the 2-bay configuration by adding two additional bays in a back-to-back row. The variations of the 4-bay configuration may include four TSR II bays or one TSR and three TSR II bays (refer to Figure 1-3 and Figure 1-4). Both variations provide the same reliable and scalable network expansion, deliver greater port density, and reduce network costs.

Y-cable connector cables provide connectivity between front and rear bays. Once installed, Y-cable allow the future addition of router module pairs to existing live configurations without service interruption or additional hardware installation.

Installation Overview

The installation tasks in this section provide an overview of the procedures directly related to the multi-bay TSR II system installation. These tasks should be performed by service personnel trained in network equipment installations.

For initial installations, install the first TSR II bay completing the procedures outlined in Terabit Switch Router Series II Install Guide. If the installation is for the second, third or fourth bay, follow the procedures for installation in the Terabit Switch Router Series II Install Guide. Continue the multi-bay installation with instructions in the chapter on positioning multi-bay configurations in this manual.

NOTE For all tasks regarding transporting, anchoring, and installation of bay components refer to the Terabit Switch Router Series II Install Guide for information regarding these procedures. This manual covers only procedures directly related to multi-bay installations.

Prior to equipment installation, ensure that a site preparedness survey has been completed by a Customer Service representative and that your site meets all necessary requirements.

PROCEDURE: Use the following steps as an outline to the multi-bay installation procedure:

Step 1 Position, align, and level the bay as required. (This step will vary for the 2-bay and 4-bay installations.) Set rotary and toggle switches on the bay(s).

Step 2 Connect the bay frames. (This step will also vary for the 2-bay and 4-bay installations.)

Step 3 Anchor the bay frame to the floor. For bays 3 and 4, bay frames are connected side-by-side prior to final anchoring. Follow anchoring procedures outlined in Chapter 3, "Placing and Anchoring Bays" in Terabit Switch Router Series II Install Guide.

Step 4 Install and configure switchable flex connectors for 2-bay configurations and switchable flex connectors and Y-cable connector cables for 4-bay configurations.

Step 5 Continuing with the installation of bay components as outlined the Terabit Switch Router Series II Install Guide to complete the installation of the bay(s).
