mpls ttl-decrement

Configures an Avici router not to decrement the time-to-live (ttl) at tunnel midpoints.

Syntax: [no] mpls ttl-decrement

Description: Use the no mpls ttl-decrement command in configuration mode to decrement ttl only at the tunnel ingress and egress for this Avici router. In this command the ttl is:

For example, if a packet arrives at the ingress of a tunnel with a ttl of 2, the ttl will be checked and decremented. As the packet traverses the tunnel, ttl will not be checked or decremented. At the egress, the ttl is both checked and decremented. At the egress the ttl has a value of 0.

NOTE A change in the global configuration does not affect existing tunnels. Perform a shutdown/no shutdown on pre-existing tunnels for the command to take affect.

The setting must be set to no mpls ttl-decrement on all Avici routers participating in the tunnel to be fully effective.

It is recommended that you only use no mpls ttl-decrement for tunnels that are made up of all Avici router routers.

Use the mpls ttl-decrement command if TTL decrement is disabled and you wish to re-enable it. Enabling TTL decrement on an Avici router assures that TTL will decrement at each router in the tunnel.

Use the show running-config command to verify that no mpls ttl-decrement is configured on this Avici router.

Factory Default: Enabled.

Command Mode: Configuration.

Example: In the following example, ttl decrement is disabled for this Avici router:

router#config terminal

Enter configuration commands, one per line. End with CNTL/Z

router (config)#no mpls ttl-decrement

router (config#end

router#show running-config
