Replacing the Air Filters
The Terabit Switch Router Series II (TSR II) bay has removable air filters seated horizontally in trays mounted inside the front air intake grille and rear intake plenum. There are two filters in the front and two in the rear. The filters screen out environmental dust drawn into the system by the cooling modules.
The TSR II system uses only UL listed 94H-1, UL 900 Class Universal polyester air filters.
Figure 1 shows the TSR II air filter.

Air filters require removal and cleaning or replacement approximately once every four weeks, more often in highly dusty areas. A damaged or worn air filter prevents proper flow of cooling air, which might result in an over temperature condition.
Adhere to all caution and warning statements while performing filter maintenance procedures.

CAUTION (1) Do not place tools on the filter tray. Damage to the honey comb screen of the filter can restrict air flow.
Removing Front Air Filter
Removal of the front air intake grille is necessary to access the front air filters. After replacement (or cleaning) of the air filters, reinstall the front air intake grille.
PROCEDURE: Use the following steps to remove the front air intake grille:
Step 1 Open the front vertical doors by sliding the finger latch towards the the outside of the bay and opening the doors.
Step 2 Turn the four captive thumbscrews (located on each corner of the front air grille) counterclockwise to loosen. Lift the front air intake grille away from the bay (refer to Figure 2).

Step 3 Turn the pivot latch 90 degrees to release the air filters (refer to Figure 3).

Step 4 Grasp the edge of the filter and pull toward the center of the bay to release the filter from the side bracket.
Step 5 Visually inspect the condition of the air filter. If the filter is extremely dusty, or appears damaged, replace the filter.
Step 6 If the filter is in good condition and not too dusty, move it away from the system and vacuum it thoroughly.
NOTE To prevent high levels of dust particles from re-entering the system, do not vacuum the filter near the system. Use caution when vacuuming the filter to prevent damage to the filter fibers and metal filter screen.
Replacing Front Air Filter
When replacing air filters, note that the flow direction arrow on the filter edge faces toward the front of the bay.
PROCEDURE: Use the following steps to replace a front air filter:
Step 1 Grasp the edge of the clean air filter with thumb and forefinger and slide it into the holding bracket (refer to Figure 4).

Step 2 Turn the pivot latch 90 degrees to lock the air filter into place.
Step 3 Position the front air intake grille over the front of the air filters, lining up the captive thumbscrews with the holes in the bay.
Step 4 Turn the four captive thumbscrews clockwise to tighten (refer to Figure 2).
Removing the Rear Air Filter
Replacement (or cleaning) of the rear air filters does not require the removal of an intake grille. Spring loaded thumb tabs hold the rear air filters in the rear air intake plenum.
NOTE Note that it is not necessary to remove the plenum to remove and clean the air filters.
PROCEDURE: Use the following steps to replace (or clean) the rear air filters:
Step 1 Lift the thumb tab up to release the rear air filter (refer to Figure 5).

Step 2 Grasp the edge of the air filter and pull it out.
Step 3 Visually inspect the condition of the air filter. If the filter is extremely dusty, or appears damaged, replace the filter.
Step 4 If the filter is in good condition and not too dusty, move it away from the system and vacuum it thoroughly.
NOTE To prevent high levels of dust particles from re-entering the system, do not vacuum the filter near the system. Use caution when vacuuming the filter to prevent damage to the filter fibers and metal filter screen.
Replacing the Rear Air Filters
When replacing air filters, note that the flow direction arrow on the filter edge faces away from the rear of the bay.
NOTE Note that it is not necessary to remove the plenum(s) to remove and clean the air filters.
PROCEDURE: Use the following steps to replace the rear air filters:
Step 1 Lift and hold the thumb tab up.
Step 2 With your thumb and forefinger grasp the edge of the clean air filter and slide the clean air filter into the front or rear air intake plenum until it is in place.
