
hostname
Defines a name for the router.
Syntax: hostname hostname
hostname
The name of this router.
Description: The hostname variable is used to identify the router in output from show commands as well as in the command prompt.
Specify a name up to 63 characters starting and ending with an alphanumeric character and containing alphanumeric characters or hyphens.
Refer to RFC 1178 and RFC 1035 for more information on host and domain naming conventions.
Use the hostname hostname to change the Avici router's name to the specified hostname.
Factory Default: Host name is router.
Command Mode: Configuration.
Example: The following example demonstrates changing the router name from the default to cincinatti. Notice that the prompt changes.
router#configure terminal
Enter configuration commands, one per line. End with CNTL/Z.
router(config)#hostname cincinatti
cincinatti(config)#
