enable password
Sets the access password.
Syntax: enable password [mode] password
no enable password
mode
Specifies whether the entered password is a clear-text or the encrypted value as it appears in the running-config display. Not entering a value specifies clear-text.
1 - The following argument is an encrypted password. This form of the command is the form used in the running-configuration file. Use this form when copy and pasting from the running-config file into the CLI. All passwords are stored in the running configuration file in encrypted mode.
0 - Specifies cleartext in the old encryption algorithm. This old encryption algorithm is supported for backwards compatibility only. Do not enter a mode value for clear-text if there is no need to support backward compatibility.
7 - Specifies that the following argument is an encrypted password in the old encrypted algorithm. 7 is a legacy algorithm supported for backwards compatibility only. Use 1 if backwards compatibility is not an issue.
password
The password, set with the enable password command, used to enter privileged mode. Enter a password between 4 and 20 characters. Use alphabetic and numeric characters only.
Description: Access to the privileged mode command-line interface for configuring the Avici router is restricted to trusted users. Passwords are entered as clear-text or encrypted-text. When entering as clear-text mode, enter the literal value, i.e. if the password is avici enter avici. The encrypted algorithm creates an encrypted-text value. The show running-config displays the encrypted-text value. For instance, the clear-text value avici may display an encrypted-text value of 37f0WO8RVLXRg. When running scripts or copy and pasting the running-config into the CLI, it is advisable to use the encrypted-text for security reasons.
The mode determines whether IPriori handles the specified password as clear-text or encrypted. The password entered must be appropriate to the mode specified.
There is an old and new encryption algorithm. The old encryption algorithm is specified using values 0 and 7. These values are supported for backwards compatibility only. Using the new encryption algorithm, do not enter a mode value when entering clear-text. Use 1 when specifying encrypted-text.
Use the enable password command to set the access password. Use the no enable password command to disable the password function when accessing privileged mode.
Factory Default: The default password on the Avici router is avici in cleartext mode.
Command Mode: Configuration.
Example: In the following example, the password for privileged command mode is changed from avici to tick1e:
router>enable
password:avici
router#configure terminal
Enter configuration commands, one per line. End with CNTL/Z.
router(config)#enable password tick1e
router(config)#exit
router#disable
router>enable
password:tick1e
router#show running config
