
erase
Moves a file to the trash directory.
Syntax: erase {startup-config | [device:] file}
startup-config
Moves the startup configuration file to the trash directory.
device:
Identifies the device containing the file to be removed. The colon (:) is required.
file
Name of the file to be removed. Names are case-sensitive.
Description: The erase command moves a file to the trash directory. This command can be used to delete any type of file except the running configuration file.
Use the startup-config keyword to move the startup configuration file to the trash directory.
Use the unerase command to move the file to the current directory.
Use the squeeze command to delete all files in the trash directory.
Factory Default: None.
Command Mode: Privileged.
Example 1: The following example moves a file named config_a.tst to the trash directory:
router#erase config_a.tst
Example 2: The following example uses the startup-config keyword to move the startup configuration file to the trash directory:
router#erase startup-config
