configure


Changes the command mode to configuration mode.

Syntax: configure {terminal  |  file  |  network}

terminal

Performs configuration commands entered from the terminal.

file

Performs configuration commands stored in a local file. You are prompted to enter the name of the configuration file.

network

Performs configuration commands from a file located on a remote system in the network. You are prompted to enter the IP address of the host system where the file is located and the name of the file.

Description: Use the configure command to enter configuration mode. If you do not use one of the three keywords, you are prompted to specify the source of configuration commands.

Factory Default: None.

Command Mode: Privileged.

Example 1: The following example demonstrates the change from privileged executive mode to router configuration mode when the configure command is used, and displays the list of available commands in the new mode:

router#config terminal

Enter configuration commands, one per line. End with CNTL/Z.

router(config)# ?

  aaa                               Authentication, Authorization,

                                    and Accounting options

access-list Add an access list entry

administrative-color Associate a color to a bit position

administrative-color-list Create a list of colors

alias Add an alias

arp ARP Configuration

bay Modify bay parameters

boot Replace the boot image

exit Exit from configure mode

help Description of the interactive help system

hostname Set system's network name

interface Select an interface to configure

ip Global IP configuration subcommands

Example 2: In the following example, the file keyword executes configuration commands stored in a file named config-tsr:

router#configure file

Enter source filename: config-tsr

Example 3: In the following example, the network keyword executes commands stored in a file named testfile.cfg located on remote system 140.122.1.190:

router#configure network

Host Address [255.255.255.255]:140.122.1.190

Enter source filename: testfile.cfg

Configure using (testfile.cfg) from 140.122.1.190 [yes | no] ? yes
