William Leighton, President and Chief Executive Officer
Dr. Bill Leighton has over 25 years of telecommunications senior management experience spanning research, engineering and business unit management. Dr. Leighton worked at AT&T in a variety of roles over the last 28 years, most recently as Vice President of Research at AT&T Labs where he led the team responsible for AT&T's core and directed research program. Prior to that, he was the Vice President of Technology and Services Strategy at AT&T Labs and ran AT&T's Security Services business unit. Dr. Leighton holds an M.S.E and Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from Princeton University. He also completed an Advanced Management Program at Harvard Business School.

 

Larry Dennison, Founder, Chief Technology Officer
Dr. Dennison is responsible for the company's technical roadmap and plays an active role in the day-to-day design and development of products. Dennison co-founded Avici Systems in 1996 and played a central role in the architecture, design, and development of the Avici routing platform. Prior to Avici, Dennison was with BBN, where he held senior management roles while also serving as divisional scientist in hardware design for advanced communications products including the BBN T20 router and the government ACTS earth station. Dennison also held technical leadership and management roles at General Computer. Dennison holds over a dozen communications patents.

Dr. Dennison holds a B.S., M.S., and Ph.D in computer science and electrical engineering from MIT.

 

William J. Stuart, CFO, and SVP of Finance and Administration
Mr. Stuart joined Avici Systems in September 2006 with a two-decade record of achievement and broad-based financial experience in the telecommunications equipment and software industries. Prior to joining Avici, Mr. Stuart served as a general partner at Still River Funds, a venture capital organization focused on investments in the information technology, communications and life sciences industries. Mr. Stuart had previously held the position of vice president of business development for ADC Telecommunications. Prior to that Mr. Stuart held CFO and VP level positions at NetCore Systems, Telco Systems, AccessLine Technologies and AT&T Paradyne.

Mr. Stuart received an MBA from Northeastern University and a BA from Boston College.

 

Esmeralda Swartz, VP, Marketing
Ms. Swartz is responsible for driving the go-to-market strategy including product management, marketing, and business development. Ms. Swartz joined Avici Systems in 2000 and was instrumental to the company's successful IPO and positioning as a technology leader in the routing market. Prior to Avici, Swartz was a director at analyst firm, IDC where she worked with leading vendors and service providers worldwide on new product and service creation, business and marketing strategy, and differentiation and positioning. Swartz has authored numerous reports on networking and contributed thought leadership pieces in leading trade publications.

Ms. Swartz holds a B.S. from Northeastern University.

 

T.S. Ramesh, VP, Finance

Mr. Ramesh joined Avici Systems in April 2003 and brings 15 years of financial management and accounting experience. Mr. Ramesh is responsible for the company's financial operations, financial planning and analysis and reporting. Mr. Ramesh previously held senior financial management and accounting positions at Sycamore Networks, InteQ Corporation and Wang Global. Previously he was a member of the audit practice with PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP where he earned his C.P.A. license.

Mr. Ramesh is a graduate of Loyola College, Madras, India, and holds an MS Accounting from the University of Rhode Island.
